CONNECT YOUR EXISTING MACHINES TO CLOUD AI
STS 5143D | RS485 to JSON / MQTT Gateway
Your factory equipment may already contain valuable information—energy consumption, temperature, operating status, production counts and process readings. But if that information stays inside a local display, it cannot easily support central monitoring and analysis.
Sundar Techno Solutions, Bangalore, helps connect compatible RS485 equipment to modern data applications using the STS 5143D gateway.
WHAT DOES THE GATEWAY DO?
For supported and correctly configured devices, the gateway collects serial data, converts selected readings into structured JSON messages and publishes them through MQTT over an Ethernet network.
A typical data path is:
RS485 / Modbus RTU Equipment → STS 5143D Gateway → Ethernet Network → MQTT Broker → Database / Dashboard / AI Application
The MQTT broker receives published messages and distributes them to subscribed applications. It can run on a local server or in the cloud.
WHAT IS JSON?
JSON stands for JavaScript Object Notation. It is a lightweight text format used to exchange structured data between different software systems.
For example:
{“machine”:”M3″,”energy_kwh”:125}
This message labels the machine and its energy reading. With the appropriate configuration, your application can associate readings with equipment names, units, locations and timestamps.
JSON makes information easier for software to organise, interpret and exchange. It is a data format—not a database, communication cable or AI engine.
WHAT IS MQTT?
MQTT is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol widely used in IoT applications.
Think of JSON as the labelled contents of a parcel and MQTT as the messaging system that delivers it. MQTT can carry JSON and other payload formats.
WHAT IS THE CLOUD?
The cloud provides computing, storage and software services on remote servers accessed through a network.
A cloud application can collect readings from multiple sites, store their history and make dashboards available to authorised users. Cloud systems can use different database and storage formats; they do not store everything only as JSON.
WHAT IS AI, AND HOW DOES CLOUD AI HELP?
Artificial intelligence uses computational models to recognise patterns, make predictions or interpret information.
When suitable AI software runs in the cloud, it can analyse the equipment data received from your factory. Depending on the application, historical data and model, this can help:
• Compare machine energy consumption.
• Identify unusual temperature or process trends.
• Highlight changes that deserve maintenance investigation.
• Summarise shift-wise or site-wise performance.
• Support questions about operational data in everyday language.
Some dashboards and alerts use ordinary calculations or rules; AI is useful where pattern recognition or language understanding adds value.
WHY IS JSON USEFUL FOR LLM APPLICATIONS?
An LLM—a Large Language Model—can interpret and generate language. It does NOT require every input to be JSON.
However, JSON is useful when software passes machine readings and database results to an LLM application. Clearly named fields make automated integration more consistent.
For example, an authorised user could ask:
“Which machine used the most energy today?”
The application retrieves the relevant records, calculates the comparison and provides the results to the LLM to explain. Correct timestamps, units and measurement intervals are essential: one cumulative meter reading alone cannot establish today’s consumption.
WHICH EXISTING EQUIPMENT IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Equipment with an accessible RS485 interface, a supported protocol and a documented register map is a strong starting point—particularly compatible Modbus RTU devices such as:
• Energy meters and electrical power analysers.
• Temperature and humidity controllers.
• Flow, pressure and level instruments.
• Weighing indicators.
• VFDs and motor-monitoring equipment.
• PLCs and machine controllers.
• Utility, water-treatment and process-monitoring instruments.
An RS485 port alone does not guarantee compatibility. Device protocol, register addresses, data types, scaling and serial settings must be checked.
WHY SUNDAR TECHNO SOLUTIONS?
STS brings industrial computing and connectivity hardware together: gateways, protocol converters, industrial Ethernet switches, panel PCs, fanless computers and edge AI platforms.
We help you select hardware around the equipment interface and application requirement. Start with a defined pilot, validate the readings and then expand the deployment.
Supporting enquiries and supply requirements across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Coimbatore, Hosur, Mysuru, Kochi and other Indian industrial locations. On-site services are subject to project scope and location.
Share your device model, communication manual, number of devices and target MQTT/cloud platform for a compatibility review.
The STS 5143D provides connectivity and data conversion. Cloud hosting, dashboards, databases, AI models and LLM integration require separate configuration and are not automatically included with the gateway. Broker authentication and security requirements must also match the selected gateway configuration.
