**STS 6U RACKMOUNT CHASSIS — A PLATFORM FOR EV HIL TEST SYSTEMS**
How can engineers test an electric vehicle controller before connecting it to a complete vehicle? One approach is **Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing**.
In an EV HIL test, the controller being tested is real. A real-time simulator models the vehicle systems around it—such as the battery, motor, sensors, vehicle network, or charging system—and exchanges signals with the controller. Engineers can observe how the controller responds to different operating conditions and simulated faults.
**Where the 6U chassis fits**
The STS 6U rackmount chassis can serve as the mechanical platform for a system integrator to build a rack-based test setup. Depending on the project configuration, the enclosure may house a computer, interface or I/O cards, load-simulation electronics, power supplies, connectors, and cable harnesses.
The chassis connects to external equipment through the interfaces installed in the completed system. These may connect to an EV controller under test—such as a Battery Management System (BMS), Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), motor control unit/inverter, or on-board charger—and to a real-time simulation system. CAN, CAN FD, analog, digital, and other signal interfaces depend on the selected cards and system design.
**Why use a 6U enclosure?**
The extra internal space can help accommodate a larger motherboard, multiple expansion cards, cabling, cooling, and service access in one rackmount enclosure. It can be useful when a test setup needs more room than a compact computer chassis provides. Card layout, power, cooling, and connector placement must still be engineered for the specific HIL system.
**Benefits of EV HIL testing**
• Test a real controller against simulated vehicle conditions
• Check control logic before a complete vehicle prototype is available
• Repeat the same test conditions during development and regression testing
• Simulate sensor values and operating scenarios
• Safely investigate selected fault conditions without deliberately creating them on a road vehicle
• Help engineering teams identify issues earlier in development

**Why STS?**
Sundar Techno Solutions supplies industrial computing and rackmount hardware and can coordinate chassis selection and hardware integration for application-specific projects. The HIL simulator, interface cards, software, wiring, and validation scope are selected according to the customer’s requirements; the chassis alone is an enclosure and does not perform HIL simulation.
**Cities served:**Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Kochi, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, and other locations across India.
