Many process plants already use HART transmitters for pressure, temperature, flow and level measurements. The FINT T700 provides a way to bring data from up to four HART transmitters onto a FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 network for integration with a compatible host system such as Yokogawa CENTUM DCS.

What are HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus?

HART is a communication protocol that carries digital information over the familiar 4–20 mA instrument loop. It lets a host communicate with intelligent field instruments as well as receive the analog measurement signal.

FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 is a digital communication network for process automation field devices. It connects field devices with a host or control system over an H1 segment. H1 operates at 31.25 kbit/s.

How the FINT T700 works

The T700 acts as the HART master for the connected transmitters and as an FF H1 slave/device on the FOUNDATION Fieldbus side. It scans for the HART instruments and makes each instrument’s primary variable (PV) available on the Fieldbus side.

For this application, the four HART multidrop transmitters can measure:

Connection limit: The T700 supports up to four HART transmitters. Each transmitter must be configured for multidrop operation with a unique address. The T700 itself appears as one FF H1 device to the host; it does not turn the four HART instruments into four separate FF H1 devices. The T700 provides one PV per HART instrument, along with measurement quality/status information.

Why use FOUNDATION Fieldbus in this converter application?

The T700 gives existing HART instruments a path into a FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 host network. This can help plants integrate installed HART measurement points with a compatible Fieldbus-capable control system, while carrying their PVs and measurement status through the converter. The exact CENTUM interface, device description and host configuration should be checked for the project.

Yokogawa CENTUM DCS is Yokogawa’s integrated production control system, bringing together operator interfaces, field control stations and a control network for plant monitoring and control.

Yokogawa also supplies field instruments for pressure, flow, temperature and level measurement.
